Bija’s impact in Mumbai, India
ABOUT THE AMCHA GHAR HOME PROJECT
Amcha Ghar Home is a home for orphaned, semi-orphaned, abandoned girls who do not know their origin, children from broken families, children of commercial sex workers, children abused by their relatives, children who have witnessed the suicide of family members and children abandoned due to poverty and hardship. Some girls’ parents suffer from HIV/ AIDS and are unable to care for them.
Bija Organization has funded the project for 1 year, and these are the results of our efforts:
Bija Organization makes sure all the girls get an education. Bija will strive to identify any area of improvement in the girls’ education so that they are ensured the best education possible. We provide a tuition fee and extra tutoring for girls who need it.
The girls get 5 meals a day, instead of 3. The girls are also getting additional milk each morning (200 ml. per day). The menu is changed regularly, ensuring the girls get a varied diet. T
he children get additional vitamins, proteins and calcium morning and evening.
Bija Organization ensures that the girls have quarterly medical check-ups. The girls are healthy and have rarely any need of medical aid.
Our efforts have also had impact within transportation, clothing, maintenance and electricity. While we have achieved a lot, we see the need for further assistance.
